waiting

Are you waiting with anticipation to open gifts? Or maybe for something else.... I have a friend so very anxious to have her baby in her arms for the very first time. Are you like me anxiously awaiting the reunion with your spouse?

Thinking about that makes me wonder about those people for centuries that waited for a savior and yearned to be reconciled with God. He came, for real. We celebrate that by waiting for our gifts as a symbol of those waiting for the savior to be born.
I believe that God is waiting for us to receive Him. Our yearning for things can not compare to His yearning for us. He loves you that much and He is waiting.

Lord,
I pray for EOD families everywhere to see You this Christmas. I pray that they see the effects of Your miracles in their lives. Help us all push past the daily stuff to see what is real and important. Open our eyes to those that may be hurting so that we can show them kindness. Show us how to accept the gift of Your HUGE love and remove things that keep us from You. I just pray a covering over this population of people. Let them live as the dearly loved children that they are.

weak belief

How is it that God can move huge mountain in my life and show me His power and down the road I can doubt. In that moment of victory I feel I will never again be afraid or insecure. Then again in a new situation I try to budge a big rock in my own strength forgetting that the battle is His and He cares.

1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Lord,
Help us to measure our obstacles against Your strength and not our own. Grow our belief where it is weak and show us Your truth.

Got Cake

I heard an awesome illustration this week. It was saying how we are like cakes. We want to have that finished dessert right now. But adding ingrediants take time. How much would you like to devour a cup of oil? Not so much.

When God adds the right ingrediants for our lives. Sometimes He removes the things we thought the recipe called for. Then He has to beat the batter to make it smooth. We need to be willing to his stirring. We then have to take the heat of a trial before we are done. Be a fragrant offering during the baking time. What comes out of you when the heat is on?

So much of our life is baby steps and we fail to see we are in process.

Father,
I am amazed that You see us already as a finished product. You know where we are going and You have an amazing plan for us. Show us how to include You in our everyday. Help us to believe that this day is just one ingrediant of a bigger recipe. I pray that You strengthen and protect all of the EOD family grow them in real faith.

Used to be

I used to be a party girl. I am happy that I never had the opportunity to be on a reality show. There are things I have done in my past that I am not proud of. I am so far from that person that I am freed from it. I don't have to cover it. Jesus did that. I have no shame. This is for real.

Father,
I thank you for the lessons I have learned and the peace You have brought to my life. I am grateful for the new person you have made me to be. We have all made mistakes and for some people they are still wearing the heaviness of bad choices. Lord, I pray that anyone that feels that sees that You have a way to take that off of them. Show them that Your grace and mercy are very real. Let the people of this EOD family have a hope for a future. Let them be new people in You and show them the path to that freedom.

not shaken

Have you gotten to a place where a bump in your day doesn't throw you out of balance. Trusting God is sovereign can do that. It is like storing up for winter. The things you meditate on and absorb strengthen you for tough seasons. Like sports conditioning. Get spiritually strong and things will not be able to move you.

I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Lord,
Show us how to abide in You. Grow us where we would falter without You. You always make a way out of temptation. You always make it clear that we can choose Your path. Let us clearly discern Your plan. Show this EOD family that they can endure and not be shaken.

Praise!

I'm going to be open today because I feel like my heart could explode with gratitude. Warrior is in a location with no church and no one to really talk God with. I had prayed for a door to be open and for God to put someone in his path to encourage him in his new walk.

I can't imagine going even a few weeks without a deep conversation about what God is doing for me. I accepted His will. I knew that God had a plan and that the outcome was going to be good. God is so faithful and so amazing. He never leaves us hanging or without a way.

We had a few days of comm blackout... no communication. I am sure all of you have been there. I had moments of discouragement and a list of things that could've easily held me down. I mostly pressed on.

Today warrior called and said that a chaplain is going to be stationed at his location. This is the first time that area has ever had a Chaplin and there is going to be some cool book study thing going too. When I hear warriors voice I feel like I can fly. When I see God answer pray I am so in awe I don't even have the words to respond! God, You amaze me! You never fail! Thank You Lord!

Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf! He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot- come, let us rejoice in him.


Lord,
I thank you for always making a way. I love what you are doing and I'm grateful that You let me see this blessing. I know so many times we don't see You working. Grow our faith to know You are involved. I pray that more of this EOD family grows to know You. I pray that they learn to rely on Your strength in all circumstances. Bless them as they do their jobs. Protect their minds, hearts, souls and bodies. I pray for the families teach them how to seek Your comfort. I thank You and praise You for this answer to prayer.

Picked Last

So, thinking about David. You know, the little boy in the bible that killed the giant with a sling and a stone. There is so much more to his story. An important prophet was to go to David's father and announce one of the sons as future king.
The prophet saw potential in the older brothers and God told him that it was not one of them. Finally, he asks the Dad is this all the boys you have. The Dad answers well, the youngest is tending sheep. The Dad doesn't even see the potential.

This just really made me think.... David becomes a very important and powerful king. He was the one. But what if he did not live with humility in his younger years. What if he had never been last pick with the brothers. Did God need to let him live that experience so He could call him to do big things? David is also the writer of Psalms. He loved God bigtime and credited Him for all of his success. Would he have done that if he were always first string?

Father,
We have all had a moment where we have been picked last or felt rejected. Let us believe that those things have a big purpose. I pray that you bind up the wound and bring it freedom that can only come from you. You allow things to bring us to bigger places. Show us how to let you turn our hurts into Your glory. I pray that you take old burdens off and put on new thoughts.

the prize

Do you ever wonder what your motive is? What is the thing that keeps you doing what you do? Would you do it if no one took notice? Would you do it if there was no reward? Sometimes rewards in this life just don't feel big enough. They can leave us empty and thinking " did I do all of this for that?" So, what are you doing it for?

Father,
Let our motives match Yours. Grow us in believing that You have made us, chosen us and have a plan for each of us. Show our feet where to go, we need Your direction in all things. I pray guidance for all the EOD people. Let them find the silence in their day to hear Your still small gentle voice. Your ways are beyond what we can imagine for ourselves. Make our expectations big as our hope grows in You alone.

just curious, what are your thoughts?

Today I had a day where it felt like I was moving against a strong current. Things weren't going my way and people were not co-operating. I'm so thankful for each day being brand new.
It is hard to stay on that foundation when you have a hard day. I know I don't have the right to take it out on those around me. I can't rise above my circumstances without God.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Father,
Teach us how to be when we have hard days. Let us rest in You when we are thinking this is not fair. Help us remember that You are working for us. Let us bring You glory with our attitudes and words to those around us. You know every detail of our struggle give us Your strength to push through our instinct and be what You created us to be. I pray that any of the EOD family that may be having a hard time just seek You bigger.

Forgiveness

I just did a study on forgiveness and it blew my mind. It is not only something we are called to do, it actually damages us when we don't. It was said that unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping that someone else gets sick from it. Truthfully, much of what we need to forgive is totally unknown by the offender. People do not get the damage they do to one another. Is total forgiveness possible. The bible says yes. It also says that we are to forgive others as we want to be forgiven. What if we are only forgiven to the extent that we forgive those that offend us? I realized I was walking around with some very serious poison for a very long time.

James McDondald is a Pastor and host of radio program Walk in the Word. On his show he explained very simply that when an offense is made there is a debt to be paid. In most cases the price of the offense is too big for a person to pay. When we forgive we let them off the hook, they owe nothing. This is what God does for us. He cancels our debt and totally forgives us.

Father,
You know this is one of the hardest things to lay down. Show us where we have unforgivness in our hearts. Teach us where things stand in the way of the peace You want for us. Teach us how to forgive totally and be free from offenses. I pray this over all the EOD people. Bless them and keep them in Your care.

Patriot Day

What is it exactly? It sometimes sounds like another confusing political agenda. We were damaged and there were huge losses. Have we healed? Doesn't restoration mean unity and growth?
We remember the tragedy and it angers and causes disension. Isn't that bitterness. I'm not at all saying forget the loss or that a wrong was done. Are we supposed to forgive, even this? Wouldn't growth be saying that "we took a blow beyond words and we are standing strong". That we got back up and we are deeper rooted.
Can a nation heal ? I think that there is too much distraction for healing. What cause do you take up? Do you just avoid all of it because it is too much? Should we have an opinion about everything? Where is your focus? I would love to have some discussion here, any thoughts?

Job is a man that went through tragedy that makes no sense. You have to get a bible and read it. Im new at this stuff and won't pretend to fully understand it enough to do it justice. I do believe it and I know there are great lessons in this story. The thing is in the end Job was restored.

JOB 41:10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.

JOB 41:12 The Lord blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first.



Father,
You cry when we cry. So much happens that makes no sense. Show us who to be with what is left. Rebuild us and make us likeminded with You. Help us not to take a root of destructive bitterness. Teach us Your ways and give us Your eyes in such a chaotic world. Make clear the causes you want for us to take and the ones that are nothing more than distraction. Guide us and let us have hearts that You can change and shape.

I remeber having a goal to "get more spiritual". I wanted to learn more and persue something. I felt like I needed to clean up a bit first. Change some things about myself and then I would be ready. God loves who you are right now in this moment. He is for you. He created you and cares about what is going on in your life.

Man, Bomb, and Holy Spirit
Snr. Lt. Marko Haukkamäki is one of Finland's most adept bomb disposal experts and a devout Pentecostalist. Jesus helps him in his dangerous work.

Senior Lieutenant Marko Haukkamäki puts a Yugoslav hand-grenade on the table. The grenade, which fitss in an open hand, is heavy for its size.
Fortunately this is just a harmless teaching aid and not a live round. Haukkamäki shows off the grenade at his workplace, a classroom at the Engineer Regiment's training facilities in Keuruu, in Central Finland.

Haukkamäki came upon a booby-trap utilising one of these devices three years ago while serving in Kosovo.
It was in the doorway of a department store in Pristina. He walked up to the grenade in his bulky "bombsuit" or blast suit, took a good long look at it, decuded correctly that it was a dud, and picked it up.
Haukkamäki, 38, is one of Finland's leading bomb disposal experts, and he leads the mine clearance course at the Engineers' School.
He has rendered safe a hundred or so explosive devices and items of UXO - unexploded ordnance - and has received training at the National Defence College in Lappeenranta and in Denmark, Great Britain, and Ireland.

His profession is to train army personnel (not conscripts) in the mysteries of explosives.
And if the driver of an excavator or back-hoe on a construction site happens to stumble across an unexploded bomb dropped in the war, then Haukkamäki is the one who gets the call to arms.
A competent junior officer, without a doubt.
But that is not quite all.
As his help in times of trouble, Haukkamäki has one extremely powerful friend: Jesus Christ.

A week ago, the film The Hurt Locker opened in Finnish cinemas.
Starring Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty as members of a U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit in Iraq, the independent movie directed by Kathryn Bigelow has won widespread acclaim and picked up several awards.
As a subject, bomb disposal has been little covered in mainstream cinema, for all that it is highly topical in the world of improvised explosive devices and roadside bombs that we read of daily in the news from Iraq and Afghanistan.

What sort of person winds up in this sort of business?
Haukkamäki has himself seen the film.
The lead character, an American sergeant, is portrayed as a reckless hothead with a constant need to get his adrenaline fix, who rips bombs away from their wiring and clips cables with pliers.
"Not someone like him", says the Lieutenant.
"All movies give the wrong impression of explosives clearance work. The bit where you are snipping wires with a pair of pliers is the very last and the lowliest resort in our arsenal of methods."

In real life dismantling situations, one tries as far as possible not to handle the explosive device at all.
An important tool is the remote-controlled robot - admittedly something that does also feature in movies.
This device, a remote controlled vehicle or RCV, sometimes called a "Wheelbarrow", comes equipped with video cameras to provide a close-up image of the bomb or UXO, and a mechanical arm for handling.
Bombs can be made harmless for instance by glueing, welding, or burning them. Or by blowing them up in a controlled manner, just as the booby-trap grenade in Kosovo was blown up.

And as for the bomb disposal expert himself, he has to be C-A-L-M with a capital C.
Unlike Sgt. James (Jeremy Renner's character) in The Hurt Locker.
Marko Haukkamäki says he feels a sense of "supernatural peace" descending on him when he walks towards a bomb with his blast suit on.
The calm comes from Jesus and the Holy Spirit, which Haukkamäki took into his life last winter.

He speaks openly and proudly of his religious convictions.
Before he found his faith, he says his life was in a knot. He drank too much, got stressed out at work, watched porn films, and above all made a complete pig's ear of his human relationships.
"I wound up in the sort of situation where I could not see any way out but to cry out Jesus's name", says Haukkamäki in the sappers' classroom.
And Jesus answered.
The whisky was poured down the sink, Metallica changed to gospel music.
The former member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church found a new spititual home with the Pentecostalists.

The reason for the change of church was that the Pentecostal rites are "more intensive, more joyful, and have more feeling to them" than the state church.
And the Pentecostalist teachings lay emphasis on the role of the Holy Spirit, important to Haukkamäki personally.
The Holy Spirit entered into Haukkamäki two weeks after he found Jesus.
"it was a very powerful experience. Tears and laughter all flooding out at the same time. A complete release; a quite incredible sensation."

Haukkamäki now believes that God led him to this kind of vocation. He first became interested in explosives technology in the Finnish Defence Forces in 1990.
When he steps towards the unknown of an unexploded bomb, Haukkamäki feels no fear inside his suit, because Jesus is watching over him.
"All my thoughts are focused on the job in hand. If you feel fear, then the fear comes before or afterwards. I believe that is how the body works - when the need arises, the entire system comes into sharp focus on the most important things", he says.
Sometimes, Haukkamäki says, during a dismantling mission, he can speak in tongues inside his bombproof helmet.

In The Hurt Locker, the EOD sergeant gets hooked on the adrenaline high that rendering a bomb safe brings him.
He eventually returns to Iraq for another tour of duty.
Does Haukkamäki hanker after a return to Kosovo? "I'm not in any hurry. The Lord will tell me when I need to go there."

can I change you?

Have you ever known someone to be on a bad path and it felt like there was nothing you could do but sit by and watch. It is a hard place to be. I often have thought I could say just the right thing to make them want to change. What if it is a parent? Does anyone have perfect ones? We think this shouldn't affect our adult life but sometimes it can. I'm asking God what He has called me to do in this situation. Sometimes I really don't have a clue. I'm trying to surrender a bitterness that I have responded with for a long time. What does loving look like in this situation?

1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seekig, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Lord,
Your love is perfect and our's is not. Help us to grow the kind of love that Your word speaks of. Show us what that means in our lives. I pray that the EOD community feels Your very real love over them. You continue to love us even when we don't want it. I thank you for that unfailing love that none of us deserve. Show us how to love in the difficult places.

Prayer: not just for crisis anymore

I used to only talk to God when I really needed out of a jam. It was a distant type thing and I had to be really desperate to even think of it. I have learned that I need God before I get to that place. I need Him in the everyday. Stuff is hard and we all need something bigger than us to face the trials.

I discovered that other military jobs had prayer pages or groups, clubs even that prayed over their members. I did an exhaustive search for something like that for EOD. I found nothing. Any mention of prayer was at funerals or for grieving families. This is a hard calling and there is a lot of highs and lows for all involved. Sometimes it is hard to find a place to pause, reflect, be thankful and ask for direction.

Know I am praying for peace and safety in your day. For protection and a comfort that is so big a person can not give it. For fresh starts and healing. For eyes that see good things in your future. For families that can survive the distance. I believe with all that I am that these things are possible with God.

Father,
I pray that your arms surround those EOD families that are in crisis. I also ask you to protect and shelter those that are not. Let us have fresh eyes for whatever we are dealing with and trust that you are there with us wherever we may go. Let us be encourager's for this EOD community and be a support to one another when we get weary. Let us learn to seek you for strength and direction.

A new journey starts today

My EOD Warrior leaves the country today. It has been a month since he has been home. I know this is a place that I do not need to explain how that works. I am not liking these circumstances. I know that this is God's plan and Warrior is going where God is placing him. This is a faith thing.

I want to share with you Psalms 91, it has been called the prayer of war. I pray this over him most days he is deployed. Especially on the difficult ones. I often pray it out loud saying his name in the psalm.

Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [a]

2 I will say [b] of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

nor the arrow that flies by day,

Father,
Be Soverign in the lives of those that are leaving the country to do their duty. Let them see hope where they serve. Cover them in Your protection and show them that Your mighty hand is with them. Bless the families left at home and give them Your strength to keep going. I pray over the families of the many fallen. Bind up their wounds and put healing on devastation. Make old things new. Let our attitudes bless those around us. Teach us to encourage and see the needs in one another. Let us follow Your lead in all areas of our lives. Help us to let go of things that don't make sense and trust in You deeper.

Challenge Coins

Challenge Coins

move forward by faith

I was thinking today about my move to this base. I had only been a Christian for a few months and was really desparate for more of God. I had prayed earnestly for God to continue that growth and to let my new found peace exist where we would be going. I longed for a connection and likemindedness. I prayed for my kids to grow and for us to be rooted deeply in things of God. Funny thing is that the closer we got to Holloman the more I seemed to forget my prayer. During the drive the green started to dissappear. I mentally noted things that I didn't like. I said critical things to my husband about the town here. I had a really hard time for a short while. It didn't seem short back then.
What you couldn't tell me then was how much of this journey would be one of faith and not sight. God faithfully answered each one of those prayers way bigger than I had imagined. Sometimes I had to get out of His way to do that. His ways are higher. I had to go through that time of leaning on my eyes so I could grow a deeper trust. I am so grateful beyond words for that now!

That's why we live with such good cheer. You won't see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don't get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. It's what we trust in but don't yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? When the time comes, we'll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming.


Father,
So many EOD people and families are in a phase of adjustment of one kind or another. You know the burdens of each one. Show them how to see with faith that You have a plan for them. Let them see beyond circumstances to know that you can give strength and comfort beyond our comprehension. I pray Your peace over these people tonight. Prepare their hearts for whatever changes are coming. Let them find a quiet place to hear Your still voice. Wrap them in Your unlimited love.

New things from Old

This deployment is different in so many ways. God is blessing me with the strength I gained from trials. I had to give it to Him. It was far to big for me to carry. That was not easy, I am very stubborn. Now I know I can not do it without Him. I am not alone.

I pray that You meet the lonely EOD tonight and let them be aware of Your presence. Let them see that You can make new things from old. Renew and refresh weary spirits.

Peace

In the bible study Beautiful Offering Angela Thomas describes peace as " a sense of God's wholeness, knowing everything is comming together". That means in the middle of crazy right when you want to freak out God can give you peace. It happens in situations when you know you should be a mess. It can only come from Him and He wants that for you!

Judgement

I'm realizing that I struggle with judgement. I don't want to judge people but I do. I think it is a self protective thing. We need to have boundaries. DO we push people away because of weakness?

Matthew 7:3
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Father,
Bring me out of old habits that do not honor You. Let me rid myself of thinking of others that I don't even see that I am doing. Help me take those thoughts captive and renew my mind. Let me see people that I judge with Your eyes. Give me Your discernment to see how to be involved with those who are so different. Help me to show the mercy to others that You have shown me.

back in the saddle

We are back into deployment mode again. Oh, I did not want to be here again. SO we are adjusting and re-whatevering.. We tend to take 10 days of nothing to just sit before jumping into life again. I wonder if anyone else has a routine for making the switch. It really is a different life and I don't know that it can be explained to someone who has never done it. I know God grows me in amazing ways during these times. So, bring it on!

Isaiah 58: 11-12
The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthn your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Lord,
Be soverign in my life during this time. Let me please You with my choices and my attitude. Grow me where You need to grow me. Protect my husband and guard him in all his ways. I pray for other families at different stages of this journey let them find encouragement and hope in you. I praise You for the miracles that You have planned.

why pray?

His wife was dying and he knew it. She had been his tower of strength and independance. Now she was frail and forgetful and couldn't care for herself. My grandfather asked me " why do we need to pray when God does what He is going to do anyway". I was not prepared to answer a question that I did not know the answer to. In my panicked mind I asked God for the words. I replied that we need to pray so that we can deal with the things that He allows. I learned from the words I spoke that day. It was my last visit with my grandparents.

Why would I share such a thing? Because it's true. We are getting ready for yet another deployment. It stinks. God allows it so it must be for good. I need to pray to have the strength to deal with it. I know He will give it to me.

James 1:1-3
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

Father,
teach me to sit at your feet and hear what You want me to know I am willing. My situation feels heavy today. Help me to consider this joy because You are in control of all things. Bless the EOD people as they do their jobs and bless the family that encourages them. We do not know our future but you do Lord. Your word says we will face trials. Show us that we do not face them without You.

Father

So, I have yet to see a father's day card that says something like " the best thing that I learned from you was to not end up like you". Ouch. Doesn't sound kind. What if it is true? Not all of us had a father that we trusted ,or one that valued us. Or if they did maybe they didn't show it. This is not about getting on the "poor me" train. If your father did not act like a father God knows. He knows why he allowed you to live that. Ask God how to respond to that now and know He can fill in any gaps in your life. He can be your father ,and give you new eyes to see your earthly father in a new way. Seek His wisdom, He is the only perfect father.

Proverbs 4:10 Listen, y son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.


Father God,
Lord let us accept you as our perfect father. I pray that these EOD people see good the thier earthly fathers. Let them grow in forgiveness where you call them to do that. Let the EOD Dad's have a fathers' heart twards their children. Show them how to live out that very important role that You have called them to. We know that through you all things are possible. Give us your eyes for our Dad. I thank You Lord for being the ultimate father and never leaving or forsaking us. Help us to hear your wisdom.

mindful of me?

When I used to hear I used to hear stuff about God I knew that it wasn't for me. I would hear "except you " after every sentiment. It went something like this " God loves all sinners" and I would hear "except you".
It was attached to every "religious" statement that I heard. I guess I just accepted myself as unlovable. I figured that if I was loved then I wouldn't have been through the difficult circumstances that I had faced. Eventually I had to really be broken to accept the truth. It is that understanding that drives me to tell you that you are not the exception. God loves you right now in this moment as you are right now! No exception!

Psalm 8:4
what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?

Father,
Help us to see that You love us as we are right now. You can bless us and heal us in the messes we make for ourselves. You are bigger than anything we face. Lord, I pray that if anyone sees themself as unloveable that You destroy that lie. Tear down the walls for them as you had done for me. Be with these EOD people and let them see You around them. Breathe Your life into any unbelief.

fear not

I would like people to think that I do not feel fearful as an EOD wife. Sometimes my imagination gets the better of me. I have heard that we need to take our fear and worries to God, but I didn't know exactly how to do that.

In the book "Calm My Anxious Heart" a woman who visualizes dropping her daughter off a tall building into the arms of God. It was then that she could give God her worries. In my mind I have thrown my husband off of many buildings. My fear can accomplish nothing. I know that God is with my husband when he is on the other side of the world. We need to give Him the things we can not control.



Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God


Lord,
Sometimes this whole thing is overwhelming. I ask You to show us how to surrender our anxieties. Take our fears Lord. You know everything that these EOD people face. You see each fear in our hearts. Teach us how to give You those feelings and trust in Your control. We can't do this without You. I thank you Lord for all You bring us through. Let us draw on Your strength. Free us from feelings that hinder.

So NOT perfect

I was very careless today with my words. I said things during a tense situation that I didn't mean. I have a hard time restraining my mouth. It is easy in a bad day to rationalize and feel entitled to speak harshly. I did it and I didn't have a right to. I was wrong. Words have more power than we think. Husband, I love you and I'm so sorry for the way I talked to you! You did not deserve that.

Father,
I mess up a lot. I know only You can fix my wrongs. Heal hurtful words that have come from my mouth in the past and show me how to guard my mouth in the future. I pray that if anyone reading this has this battle that they can trust You to change them. Keep our hearts sensitive to the ones we love and let us build them up and not tear them down. Lord I thank you for fully covering our mistakes and giving us Your hope.

God can fix it

I was living overseas and felt alone in a crowd. I had been an EOD wife for several years and somehow ended up in situations I did not want. I believe now that events from my entire life caught up with me and it was heavy. The things that worked for temporary relief before no longer changed anything. I needed something to change, I just didn't know that it would be me.

I was angry about a lot of things. I begun to pray if God could fix this then do it. If Jesus is real then show me. It was the beginning of a crazy journey.

Matthew 7: 7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Lord,
I thank you for loving me and showing me the possible. I know that there are people in the same circumstance I was in. Let them hear Your voice and feel Your arms around them. Let all the EOD people trust that Your love and forgiveness and grace are for them. When they are desperate let them see You. Help us see we are more than conquerors.

Today it's personal

So faith and asking God for things..... I'm about to share my deepest most private stuff. My 3 y/o has to go through invasive testing for her kidneys every year, since birth. She is on medication year round. I and many others have prayed for healing. She has not been healed.
My sweet girl is aware of the coming tests and is very anxious about it. I can not describe the sounds and look that come over her when we go through a medical experience like this. It is heart wrenching to see your child with eyes glazed over screaming at you when they insert a catherater through scare tissue.

How do I even explain this to her? How can I explain it to you? That for three years I still believe that God is in control and doing the best for her. I could have totally turned my back on him long ago for not answering this prayer. I haven't and I know I can't face this without Him. I will pray for healing. I will pray for his mercy and grace on the appointment. I know He will be there with me and I pray for His will to be done. So much of what God does not make sense to us. I know He is in this working it for our good, even if I don't see it right now. Do you have a situation like that?

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Lord,
I pray for Your strength and comfort for my family this week. Cover all my children and put your hands upon them. I ask You to heal my daughter. I know You could instantly. I also know that if You do not it is because You have a bigger plan than I can see. I put this situation in Your hands because mine are not capable. Lord, I pray for any of the EOD people that are in a situation like mine. Let them be healed and let them give you control of their situations. You are soverign and You do care.

Did you ever think that when you heard your favorite song on the radio that it was played at that exact moment just for you? Maybe it was the hummingbird that only you got a glimpse of? God sends love notes for you at just the right time. He loves you that much!

Heavenly Father,
Let us believe You are God and that we are Your people. Show the EOD people Your love and help them see that You delight in them. Take away any doubts of not being good enough. Thank You for accepting us just as we are right now.

be good

As kids we are told to "be good". I think we grow up not knowing what that looks like. We are not born knowing how to behave. A child wants whatever he sees and has to learn to wait. Even as adults we can do good things in our own strength temporarily. Our self-seeking behavior often leads us to dissappointment. God can grow lasting goodness in you. Seek Him and He will change you in ways you never imagined.



Galations 22-23
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Father,
You want good things for us. So often it is our stubborness that gets in Your way. Help us push past that so that You may grow us. Help all of the EOD people see how big you are and show them how to grow fruit in thier lives. Thank you for never giving up on us and always providing a way. You make all things new!

It all counts

It can be so hard to follow through on tasks that don't seem to count. The ones that go unnoticed and without reward. The efforts and attitude you put forth in those moments count to God. It matters and is the true measure of character.

Father,
Be our motivation to do good things. Let our work both seen and unseen please You. We know there is nothing we can do to earn Your grace, You give that freely because You love us. You love all of these EOD people, no exceptions. Show us how to be the real deal and know that You are always our audiance. I thank you for cheering us on.

Waiting

Ever pray for something and believe it with all that you are and it looks like nothing happens. Frustrating! Persevere! God answers even when we don't see results. I can think of many instances that I'm so glad that my prayers were not answered. He said "no" because He had something better for me later.

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Lord,
Help us to grow a faith that knows you are in it even when we don't feel it. Show us how to keep choosing You in any circumstance. Bless the people of EOD as they wait to hear from You. Give them the strength that only comes from You in times of waiting.

Hope

Do you have hope for the future. Thoughts of good things that will be a part of your days. Knowing God is involved means that He has good things planned for you. God wants good things for You. He can work all things together for your good. Sound impossible? It's not. Put your hope in Him.

O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.

Heavenly Father,
I pray your word over these people. Lord, put your hope in the EOD people and let them know your unfailing love let them live full redemption. These things are impossible without You. Fill this body of people with the hope that comes from You and let them live it in whatever they are dealing with.

where is your heart?

Everyone worships something. I'm not talking about dreams and goals. I'm talking about what has power over you. What defines you? I have once heard that you can see where someone's heart is by looking at where they spend their time and money. Don't let things or labels define you. Be more than that. The things that are valuable to God are not always the same things that are valuable to us.

Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.


Lord,
Show us where to put our priorities. Sometimes this is so confusing. Lord, I pray that you show us anything that we put before you. Be the most important thing in our lives. I pray that you give the people of EOD a taste of how good you are. Let the things you don't want for them to fall away and give them the sthrength to abide in You. Bring all of them your peace and let them find identity in You. Your rewards are lasting and never shameful.

better then....

Have you ever known someone to over-glamorize the past? Life was so much better when I was "__________". You can fill in the blank with just about anything: thinner, in school , single, had less responsibility, at another location. We all seem to do that at some point. We pick little snippets and paint that as the entire experience. I did this for a time. I believe that God showed me I was believing a lie. The truth was that if I looked at those days in their entirety they were miserable. That type of thinking can stop you from seeing the good things in your life at this moment. Put truth on those thoughts and if it is not true, let it go.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Father,
Show us where to put our focus. Purify our thinking and free us from thoughts that keep us from enjoying where you have us right now. Remove any thought that brings us away from what you want from us. Renew our thinking and restore us with truth. Lord, I pray that you give all the EOD people here your perspective on their lives. Show them that they are so very valuable to you and bless them in all they do this week.

hearing

our world is so loud today. We workout with noise, drive with noise, go through our day with noise... always texting, ringing, and media. No wonder it is so hard to hear God. Sitting in stillness is so rare. I think we sometimes are left raw with all the noise. I love music and as I sit here at my computer now I say that technology is beneficial. We need to learn to be comfortable with quiet peace. Are you up for the challenge? Take some time for nothing this week. Still yourself and see what God has for you. If you really want to be led get a bible His word can guide your life.

"Be still, and know that I am God"

Prayer:
Lord,
Show us how to see You and recieve what you have for us. Let us be still so we can learn how to fit you in to a busy and noisy world. I thank you for wanting to be part of our lives Lord. Your word tells us that you know the numbers of the hairs on our head. Quiet our day so we can listen to what you have for us. Let these EOD people find a new song in You.

We need people

People are not perfect, they mess up and let you down. Sometimes moving a lot will make us want to put walls up and not get to know someone. Being self-protective is dangerous. We have all been burned. We need to take a chance and seek someone who understands us. Someone we can take off the mask and share a victory with. Someone who we can talk through a struggle with. Life's burdens are too big for one. God can put these people on your path too. What is your definition in a friend? It is more than a common interest. What kind of friend do you want to be? Start being that person, it is possible.

Matthew 18:20 "When two or three come together in my name, there I am with them."

Prayer:
Lord,
Tear down the walls that isolate us. Help us to stop being self-protective. Give us your wisdom to clearly see friendships that are good for us. Help us to also see those that are not. Show us how to respond to others. I pray that you bless the EOD community with genuine friendships. Sometimes we are so often lonely in a crowd, heal that hurt. Give us the strength to be the kind of friend You want us to be. Let this all be for Your glory.

Annoying People

Ever deal with annoying people? Maybe someone just rubs you raw? I have found that I had moved and encountered some of the same annoying personalities. I was saying "what is it about me that attracts these people". I've come to believe it is more than coincidence. God knows the lessons you need to learn. I'm going to kick myself later... these people are for our good. Ouch! God puts the people in your path for a reason. It doesn't mean you have to like them or give in to their every whim. It just can mean that you can learn something about yourself from your reactions. Stay teachable, be willing to ask God why.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives generously to all without reproach and it will be given to him.


Prayer
Lord,
You know why we deal with each person you have placed in our lives. You love each of these precious EOD people and families and You want good things for them. If anyone is thinking that they are exempt from your love show them they are not. You showed me, and I'm so grateful. Lord, let us deal with difficult people Your way. Make us willing to see what you have to teach us about this situation. Help us to fully grasp that You can equip us for any situation. You will not abandon us and You are bigger than any rotten person we face.
Give us Your infinite wisdom in all our relationships. I know you are doing big things here.

Unexpected

Today was a day that I had not planned. God knew every single thing that would happen today. He gives me the tools to deal with it. I have to trust that, even when I don't feel it. That is what it means to have faith. Go for it, pray for it, even if you don't feel it. Have you given much thought to the word faith? We use it often.

Deuteronomy 31:8The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.


Prayer:

Father,
You prepare a place for us. You make no mistakes. Show us how to learn and accept the things you put before us. Teach us what real faith is and grow us. I pray that the EOD people see You in their lives today. Keep them safe and show them your purpose.

Refreshed

It is so hard to jump back into the routine after a long weekend. My heart goes out to anyone that did not get a break for the holiday, I know that there are many. My sincere hope is that you know how to give yourself a break and that you feel refreshed after. I hope that you are able to rise above negative stuff and be in peace regardless of your situation. Put something positive in your head today. Negative stuff is all around us and so contagious. Be encouraged and know that deep peace is possible.

Prayer:
Father,
I pray rest and renewal for this EOD group. Let them approach this week feeling recharged and fresh. Let them see old things with new eyes. Shut out negative things that come into their path and breath life into their day. Put hope where there wasn't any before. I especially pray for those that did not get a break. Fill them with your strength and refresh their spirit. Help us to remember that you can be a source of energy in any and all circumstances. Guide our thoughts this day and let us be open to your blessings.

Memorial Day

It's that day. In today's time it feels sort of confusing. Are you grateful to be mentioned? Sad to remember a loss? Uncertain of how to reach out to someone hurting? We live in a time where we celebrate the wrong kind of heroes. Where we don't appreciate anything and are told we are entitled to it all. I watch old movies and long for that sense of appreciation for those that serve our country.

Sometimes I hate my husbands job. I could go on and list the reasons. I could grow into bitterness and focus on the danger and how it can make me feel. I have been jealous of his leaving. I'm trying to overcome all of that. Really, (my real true feelings.. all petty stuff aside ) I am grateful for what he does. I appreciate that he makes people safe and he gives God credit for the strength to do it. Babe, you are my hero.

For all of the EOD community : All of you have been touched by death and wounds. All of you have missed major life events. I know it is hard to look at other career fields and compare the amount of toil that you have put forth. I just want to say what you do matters. Be blessed this day and know that you were created for a big purpose. All of you are valuable and essential. I pray that you feel blessed wherever you are today. All EOD families have been heroes. All have been part of keeping people safe. I thank you.

Heavenly Father,
You know the number of losses that have taken place with all of the EOD community. You know the deep hurts and things inside that we don't show. I pray Lord that you be the source of comfort and healing for anyone in need. Bind up our wounds and trade beauty for ashes. Father as we remember EOD that are no longer living and let us not be bitter. Teach us to respect and honor one another in such a fallen world. Show us how to respond to the needs in those around us. Help us surrender the things that don't make sense and trust that you are in control. I pray your protection and love over every EOD gathering this day. Lord let the heroes feel honored.

Lord,

Bless what I am about to do here, You know all things and You can do all things. Show me how to encourage EOD people and their families. If there is someone that needs encouragement fill them today with your hope. I pray Lord that you cover EOD men and women with your protection and renew their strength. Give them your hope and be real in thier lives.
