It's that day. In today's time it feels sort of confusing. Are you grateful to be mentioned? Sad to remember a loss? Uncertain of how to reach out to someone hurting? We live in a time where we celebrate the wrong kind of heroes. Where we don't appreciate anything and are told we are entitled to it all. I watch old movies and long for that sense of appreciation for those that serve our country.
Sometimes I hate my husbands job. I could go on and list the reasons. I could grow into bitterness and focus on the danger and how it can make me feel. I have been jealous of his leaving. I'm trying to overcome all of that. Really, (my real true feelings.. all petty stuff aside ) I am grateful for what he does. I appreciate that he makes people safe and he gives God credit for the strength to do it. Babe, you are my hero.
For all of the EOD community : All of you have been touched by death and wounds. All of you have missed major life events. I know it is hard to look at other career fields and compare the amount of toil that you have put forth. I just want to say what you do matters. Be blessed this day and know that you were created for a big purpose. All of you are valuable and essential. I pray that you feel blessed wherever you are today. All EOD families have been heroes. All have been part of keeping people safe. I thank you.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You know the number of losses that have taken place with all of the EOD community. You know the deep hurts and things inside that we don't show. I pray Lord that you be the source of comfort and healing for anyone in need. Bind up our wounds and trade beauty for ashes. Father as we remember EOD that are no longer living and let us not be bitter. Teach us to respect and honor one another in such a fallen world. Show us how to respond to the needs in those around us. Help us surrender the things that don't make sense and trust that you are in control. I pray your protection and love over every EOD gathering this day. Lord let the heroes feel honored.
In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen
